True Food Kitchen Now in Boca Raton

Disclosure: Services were provided to me for editorial consideration by True Food Kitchen. All opinions are 100% my own.

One of my favorite things to do since going completely vegan has to be discovering new hidden foodie gems that don't make me feel can I put this?  A 2nd class citizen?  Too harsh?  Not really...A lot of times, I find myself scrutinizing the menu at restaurants because items are not labeled appropriately and the reality is, there aren't many options that cater to a vegan diet πŸ˜“

That is why when I find a spot that takes the time to develop delicious vegan options, labels their food, and actually revels in the health benefits of a plant-based diet, I am all in!  True Food Kitchen has made it's way to South Florida.  Having opened its doors to the public on February 21st, this restaurant covets quite a bit of claims regarding its menu options, health benefits and ingredients.  Keep reading to learn all about my experience at TFK and what they have brought to Boca Raton 🌿😍

Rooted in the belief that healthy living starts at the table, True Food Kitchen has taken sustainably sourced, nutrient rich ingredients to create a flavor forward seasonal menu.  I had the opportunity to stop by prior to the restaurant's public opening and try quite a bit of vegan options from their Winter menu, as well as, take a moment to chit chat with physician and author, Dr. Andrew Weil, regarding his collaborative efforts in founding True Food Kitchen

So first off, Dr. Weil is quite a fascinating individual.  Originally taking his career down the road of traditional medicine, he realized that many times, the health of his patients just wasn't improving.  This is when he started to explore the area of integrative medicine.  Basically, as a doctor, he stopped looking at individual symptoms and issues and started looking at his patient as a whole...the physical, emotional, mental, social, spiritual, and environmental influences that were affecting his patients' health.

This exploration led him to develop his anti-inflammatory food pyramid.

In 2008, he partnered with co-founder, Sam Fox, and True Food Kitchen opened its first set of doors in Phoenix, AZ, and the rest is history.  Rooted in the principles of his anti-inflammatory food pyramid, TFK's nutrition focused menu is all about delicious, simple foods.

Being a seasonal menu also allows for peak freshness and flavor, and sustainable sourcing, all while achieving and maintaining optimal health.

  • Healthy Herbs and Spices
  • Lean Proteins
  • Whole Grains
  • Fruits and Vegetables

Trust me when I tell you the results are DELICIOUS!!!  Let's take a look at some of their vegan Winter menu items πŸ’š

True Food Kitchen Pomegranate Chia Limeade

Upon being seated, I ordered their Pomegranate Chia Limeade πŸ ‰ You guys!!!  This was so good!!!  Listed on the menu under Refreshers & Teas, this drink was both flavorful and definitely refreshing 🍹 I also had the opportunity to try out their Carrot Turmeric Tonic 🠟 not too sweet, not too savory, but definitely delicious πŸ₯• I hate to say this but I don't drink a lot of water...I know...I know...I like to drink something with flavor when I am eating.  These two drinks totally hit the spot!!!

They also have a few cocktail menu items which I wanted to try out but since I was driving, I am going to save those for another time.  On my wish list though...the Scratch Bloody Mary and the Pineapple & Orange Mimosa 🍍🍊😍

Making food selections was a breeze because menu items are easily labeled!  V = Vegan, VEG  = Vegetarian, GF = Gluten Free πŸ’– Many of the menu items can also be modified to be V or VEG so do not hesitate in exploring the menu with your server.

Any other dietary questions, and the staff was able to provide the answers πŸ’š

I opted to start my culinary adventure with their Charred Cauliflower.  You guys...I am still dreaming about this dish.  It was flavorful and cooked to perfection!  I ended up taking half of the starter to go and enjoyed it the next day....still just as delish 😏

"Charred Cauliflower - harissa tahini, medjool date, dill, mint, and pistachio (V, GF)"

Prior to my main course, I wanted to check out one of their salads.

"Seasonal Ingredient - brussel sprouts, butternut squash, cauliflower, white bean, pomegranate, toasted mulberry, and horseradish vinaigrette"

While this could easily be a great lunch salad, I was happy to see they offered them in half sizes because I had my eye on a few other menu items and didn't want to fill up too much πŸ˜‰

At this point, I was totally on the fence between two menu items...The T.L.T. and the Butternut Squash Pizza.  Thank goodness I brought a friend!  My girl Dawn over at Simply Sassy Style, made it easy!  I ordered the T.L.T. and she opted for the pizza, both vegan.  Oh yes the best of both worlds!!!

True Food Kitchen T.L.T. Sandwich with Kale Salad

"T.L.T. - smoked tempeh, butter lettuce, tomato, avocado, vegan mayonnaise, and seeded grain bread"

Being a sandwich, I had the option to go with sweet potato fries or kale salad.  Deciding to keep it light I went kale and it was perfect πŸ₯— The kale salad is also one of their Salad menu items listed as VEG, but all I had to do was request no grana padano, which I learned is a cheese similar to parmesan.  The sandwich itself was a really hefty serving!  Did I mention I am a huge fan of leftovers?  It makes me feel like I went to out to eat twice! LOL!

"Organic Tuscan Kale - lemon, garlic, grana padano, breadcrumbs"

The pizza was also amazing, and Dawn made sure I didn't go for the slice with all the delicious almond ricotta.  I think she may have slapped my hand away when I tried to grab it if I remember correctly! LOL!  Just kidding girl!  I love you 😘

I know it seems like there was really no way I could eat anything else, trust me when I tell you I saved a little space for dessert...OK maybe a lot of space 🍰 πŸ˜‰

Being a vegan, dessert is one of those meal components that we automatically assume is not an option.  Unless you go to a super vegan friendly restaurant, the only thing most mainstream places have to offer is a bowl of fruit.  While fruit is great, let's cut to the's no dessert!

Behold True Food Kitchen's Squash Pie and Vanilla Chia Pudding πŸ’ž

Take a moment, it's ok...

True Food Kitchen Squash Pie with Coconut Whipped Cream

I like to call this slice of heaven Thanksgiving on a plate...squash, graham cracker crust and coconut whipped cream....YES YES YES!!!

P.S. They will be selling whole pies and the whipped cream for the holiday season, so get in line right behind me πŸ‚

The Vanilla Chia Pudding was also delicious with bananas and toasted coconut 🍌

Aside from the amazing food, I also loved the ambiance of this place πŸ’š The layout really lends itself to a sense of communal dining and boasts a beautiful open kitchen.  The restaurant also offers outdoor seating which is nice for a beautiful sunny, South Florida day 🌞
